Bleecker Street has acquired US rights to Sundance drama 892 starring John Boyega as Brian Brown-Easley, the former U.S. Marine who walked into a bank claiming to have a bomb after his disability cheque failed to materialise.
Abi Damaris Corbin directed the film which also stars the late Michael Kenneth Williams in what was his final film role, Nicole Beharie, Connie Britton, Olivia Washington, Selenis Leyva, London Covington and Jeffrey Donovan.
Bleecker Street plans a late summer nationwide theatrical release for the film, which won the special jury award for ensemble cast in U.S. Dramatic Competition.

Salman Al-Rashid and Sam Frohman of Salmira Productions produced 892 with Ashley Levinson and Kevin Turen of Little Lamb Productions and Mackenzie Fargo of Epic. Executive Producers include Will Greenfield, Josh Bearman, Joshua Davis, Arthur Spector, Sims Frazier, Katia Washington, Jarrett Turner, Harrison Huffman, Femi Oguns, Moudhy Al-Rashid and Boyega.
Bleecker Street’s head of acquisitions Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy brokered the deal with WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers.
The distributor debuted Summering from James Ponsoldt at the festival. Its slate includes awards contenders Mass and Germany’s shortlist Oscar submission I’m Your Man, as well as Michel Franco’s Sundown with Tim Roth and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Coming up this year are Malgorzata Szumowska and Michal Englert’s Infinite Storm with Naomi Watts; David Siegel’s Montana Story; Emma Holly Jones’ Mr. Malcolm’s List with Freida Pinto; and Guy Nattiv’s Golda starring Helen Mirren.
