‘The Mother Of All Fights’

Orlando von Einsiedel’s UK production company Grain Media has boarded documentary The Mother Of All Fights, co-directed by Oscar-nominated Brazilian filmmaker Juliano Ribeiro Salgado.

Currently in post-production ahead of completion in 2024, The Mother Of All Fights follows Brazil’s social change through the figure of indigenous activist-turned-politician Sonia Guajajara. von Einsiedel and Grain Media’s Chloe Leland will executive produce the film, in collaboration with producers Alice Aedy and Joi Lee of UK production company Earthrise.

The film is directed by Salgado and Ivi Roberg for their Brazilian firm Uacari Films. Salgado was nominated for the best documentary Oscar in 2015 for The Salt of the Earth, which he directed with Wim Wenders. Guajajara and indigenous Brazilian congresswoman Celia Xakriaba are also executive producers.

Grain Media is aiming to roll the film out internationally in May 2024 with a global impact campaign, building towards the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP) in Brazil’s Amazon region in 2025.

Guajajara said the film “will open many doors for us indigenous women to protect our rights and our biodiversity.”

A statement from Roberg and Salgado described the fight against climate change as “the most important theme of our world right now.”

“A group of indigenous women leading the movement that profoundly questions the balance of power in Brazil marks the shift in consciousness necessary to change the course of destruction we are heading towards,” said the duo.

Grain Media’s previous documentary titles include Virunga, which was Oscar-nominated in 2015; and The White Helmets, which won the best documentary short Oscar in 2017, both directed by UK filmmaker von Einsiedel.
