Martelli’s drama premiered in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight selection earlier this year and recently picked up the best first feature film award at Jerusalem. The film follows a middle-class woman re-evaluating her beliefs when she’s asked to secretly take care of an injured man. Luxbox are handling sales.

Guzmán’s My Imaginary Country similarly premiered at Cannes, in the Special Screenings strand, and explores Chile’s 2019 protests and the subsequent aftermath.

The documentary will open the Horziontes strand while Octopus Skin from Ecuadorian filmmaker Ana Cristina Barragán, about a woman returning to her childhood home after the death of her younger sister, will close. Barragán’s previous film Alba picked up a special mention at San Sebastian in 2016 and went on to win the Lions award at Rotterdam.

Octopus Skin is one of four films featured in this year’s Horizontes line-up that screened in last year’s WIP Latam. The other three are Fabián Hernández’s Un Varón from Colombia; Carlos Lechuga’s Vicenta B. from Cuba and Juan Pablo González’s Dos Estaciones from Mexico. The latter premiered at Sundance, with star Teresa Sánchez winning the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award:  Acting.

All films will compete for the Horizontes Latinos award worth €35,000 while those which are the director’s first and second works (976, Carvão, Dos estaciones, La jauría, La piel pulpo, Sublime, Tengo sueños eléctricos and Un varón) will also compete for TCM Youth Award.
